Swede’s Photographs<p>Squirrel on the Roof</p><p>This morning, I stepped out the backdoor and spotted a little eastern gray squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis) sunning itself on the roof of my backyard shed. It must have leapt there from a nearby tree, perhaps drawn by the warmth of the roof. The chilly morning air made it the perfect spot to soak up some heat.</p><p>My photo gallery features over 1,100 carefully selected images. Lucy B<p>Starling.</p><p>This common bird is red listed in the UK, having seen long term declines. The breeding population in the UK has seen a 54% decrease between 1995–2022. This particular bird was alone and searching through the straw for food (usually invertebrates).</p><p>Feb 2025. The chick’s passing happened some time after all 3 were observed together getting fed at 6pm on 3/13. Swede’s Photographs<p>Wings Above the Wild</p><p>Look closely, and you'll notice three brown pelicans (Pelecanus occidentalis) in this image, framed by a backdrop that resembles a jungle island. I captured this shot while aboard a ship in the Port of Galveston, where brown pelicans were abundant. After taking numerous photographs, I spent this afternoon sifting through them and deliberately selected one devoid of manmade features to create the illusion of a prehistoric island. Swede’s Photographs<p>Echoes of Stillness</p><p>As I look around at the treetops, I notice the delicate interplay of light and shadow. Upon closer examination, these subtle shifts often unveil birds and other wildlife. In this instance, the treetop became a temporary haven for a group of goldfinches. Though the small flock was too distant and the morning light too faint to capture much detail, I chose to present the scene in black and white—offering a vignette-style cameo of the birds.</p><p>The photographs I share here don’t appear as vivid as they do in my Pixel’s gallery. To make them load more easily, I reduce their size and slightly lower their quality. Swede’s Photographs<p>Good morning. ⛈️🌩️⚡</p><p>15 March 2025</p><p>Thunder crashed, shaking the house and jolting me from a deep sleep. It happened right at six, the time I usually wake up. Was it mere coincidence, or do gods conspire to control my days? After brushing my teeth and pulling on my trousers, I opened the bedroom door to find Ben waiting, alone. Clearly, he was frightened by the thunder, seeking the comfort and reassurance of our steadfast companionship. But where was Charlie? He almost always greets me at the bedroom door in the morning. I found him at the back door, anxiously waiting to go outside. Jer 🚵🏼<p>Long time ago, when we lived up a mile long dirt road, we went for a meandering Sunday hike and stumbled across Corbin Park, which was surrounded by a huge fence with a black SUV patrolling the perimeter. It's now a game preserve for very wealthy hunters.</p><p>Friend passed along this video about Ernest Harold Baynes, who among many other things, was a conservator of Corbin Park buffalo reserve (long before it was sold to hunting club). Swede’s Photographs<p>Good morning. 🩺💊⚕️</p><p>14 March 2025</p><p>Do you use a pill organizer? If you do, chances are you’re no longer a spring chicken. I remember when I was first prescribed a daily pill—it was in my forties, and my blood pressure had climbed well past the acceptable range. I was preparing for dental surgery when my dentist, a colonel, ordered me to head straight to the emergency room. At the ER, the nurse who took my blood pressure got quite excited (she did give it back), though the doctor seemed unfazed. And that’s how I ended up with my starter pack of meds. Since then, my daily regimen has grown little by little, to the point where I now struggle to fit everything into my pill organizer.</p><p>"I believe in prescription drugs.
