#Pottery

5 posts5 participants2 posts today

i'm challenging myself to step out of my comfort zone (mugs + cups) to improve my teapot forms. not ready to commit, but am going to TRY and make a teapot every day.

This is unfired porcelain. decorated and ready for the kiln!

hope you are having a good weekend!

Whenever I have new #pottery ready, I send an email to my subscribers. It’s a way for me to communicate with people who want to buy my work and it’s also a place to express myself in more than 500 characters since I like to write. I describe my process, explain the thoughts behind certain pieces, share my inspirations, etc. If you’d like to sign up, visit my website.

Being a potter means drawing from a vocabulary of tried-and-true forms: mugs, teapots, bowls, pitchers, etc. However, these archetypal forms have European & Asian origins.

I thought it would be interesting to everyone & affirming to other Black ceramicists to reference #African forms in contemporary tableware. The combining of European, Asian and African ceramics traditions goes back to mid-20th century, but that history is omitted from US #ceramic education. See #alttext for details. #pottery

Something not music-related today! A couple of years ago I fell deeply in love with ceramics. I love shaping clay with my hands I love recycling and reusing it again and again. I love that I can shape it into almost every shape I can imagine and create art pieces for everyday use.

It is not a very accessible craft though since it requires a lot of space and some very expensive equipment - at least if you want to be making food-safe and watertight ceramics. So it took me a long time to get going and start creating the pots I imagined. My process is very slow and careful, sometimes it takes me months to finish a mug, bowl, palette or figurine. I am happy to have found a ceramic artist close to where I live who fires my work and happy to have a partner who is unbothered by the fact that I use our bathroom as a pottery studio sometimes, throwing wheel and all! :blobartist:

If you want to check out some of my creations, feel free to take a peek at my etsy shop: radiculacrafts.etsy.com

For now I want to present you with my new logo I designed, inspired by snowdrops, some actual snowdrops I spotted today and my most popular ceramic item: a small travel palette you can take on all your creative adventures 🎨

I'll be sharing more in the future, but am thinking about a separate pottery account for that, but maybe not? What do the more mastodon-savvy people among you you think? 🌱

Life is much more than material things, a truism indeed.

But at the same time, we are surrounded by things: things we use, things we have been given, things that remind us of places and people, things that we treasure for all of these reasons.

So let us enjoy these things, using them with pleasure and gratitude.

I guess it’s time for a long overdue #introduction
So hi I’m Céleste, from the land of kouign amann (Bretagne) and I came here for the spinny cats. I’m a 24-years-old lesbian and a cat mom of one beautiful orange baby. Trying out she/they pronouns at the moment but I’m a bit lost gender wise so that might change.
I’m really into all kinds of #crafts but especially #fibercrafts mainly #knitting these days but I also love #crochet, #sewing, #embroidery among many others. I’ve also tried #pottery and I wish it was more accessible bc I love it so much but can’t do it at the moment. I’m interested in everything #creative (except maybe writing).
I love learning languages but I’m really not good at getting to an okay level before switching to the next one. I speak #french and #english fluently, my #swedish used to be good but I lack practice but wanna get back to it, same for #finnish and #german. Currently I’m trying to get better in #spanish and get to an okay level. I’ve also tried #russian, #icelandic, #romanian, #hungarian without great success. I’d love to try out one #sami language one day but I should focus on the other first.
Currently completing the last semester of my masters and I will complain a lot about my thesis.
I’m also dealing with chronic depression, anxiety and probably other stuffs. I very obviously hate psychiatry although I’m user of it given the lack of alternatives.
